Pedro Acosta left the Catalan GP with a bitter taste. The Spanish rider managed to finish third in the Sprint race to mark his birthday, also on the same day. However, the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider missed Sunday’s race after crashing while in second position and chasing Jorge Martín.

Acosta spoke in an interview with DAZN about the weekend and Aleix Espargaró’s announcement that he will retire from racing at the end of the season.

– It was the first time we were competitive all weekend. It was the first time we eliminated some problems we had with the bike. I think we took a big step, the factory took another big step by focusing on a few problems throughout the week. Little by little, between what we’re doing and what they’re doing, we’re taking small steps forward

He added of Aleix: ‘It’s a shame. I started with Albert [the same coach], we had the same coach for 5 or 6 years, and you build a relationship, you talk… It’s always a shame. Besides, he’s become very sentimental and I’m very tearful. But the truth is that today was a day to cry.
